Estudo de mercado - Modem GSM e Dispositivo móvel
1 - Modem GSM
Tipos de modems GSM
Um modem gsm pode ser um dispositivo externo, como o modem Wavecom Fastrack. Basta inserir o cartao SIM neste modem e conectá-lo a uma porta serie disponivel no PC.
Um modem GSM poderá ser um PC Card instalado num PC portatil, um exmplo é o Nokia Card Phone.
Um modem GSM ainda poderá ser um telefone móvel GSM com um cabo apropriado e com software (driver) para conectar a uma porta serie disponivel no PC. Telefones moveis como o Nokia 7110 com um cabo DLR-3 cable ou alguns telefones Ericsson podem ser utilizados nesta configuração.
Um modem GSM dedicado (externo ou PC Card) é usualmente preferivel à configuração que utiliza um telefone movel GSM e um cabo. Isto deve-se a questões de compatibilidade que poderá existir com os telefones moveis. Alguns telefones moveis não permitem receber correctamente mensagens de texto SMS maiores que 160 bytes (conhecido como concatenated SMS ou long SMS). Isto acontece porque estas mensagens longas sao fragmentadas e enviadas como mensagens SMS separadas, no entanto, o telefone movel faz uma tentativa de reasemblagem da mensagem antes de o colocar na interface(cabo para a porta serie) do telefone movel.
Especificações num modem
As especificações dos modulos e terminais GSM / GPRS dividem-se em:
1- Especificaçoes gerais caracteriza-se por:
• Frequencia de Banda: Dual band (900/1800) ou Tri band (900/1800/1900);
• Tensão de alimentação;
• Potência de transmissão;
• Normas de controlo atraves dos comandos AT: 07.07 e 07.05;
• Potência de consumo e questões relacionadas com a gestão da alimentação, por exemplo: idle mode.
2- SMS caracteriza-se por:
• MT, MO, CB, Text and PDU mode
3- GPRS
4- Fax
5 - Dados caracteriza-se por:
• Circuit Switched Data (CSD) transmission rates: asynchronous, transparent, non-transparent
• GPRS data downlink transfer
• GPRS data uplink transfer
• Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
• Coding scheme: CS 1, 2, 3 4

• Informação que permite o desenvolvimento de aplicações: manuais, datasheets etcEm seguida mostramos alguns dos modems selecionados que preenchem os requisitos e uma breve descrição das suas espeficações.
Análise
Os modulos e terminais fornecidos pela Siemens preenchem os requisitos, nomeadamente os modelos TC35, TC35T, MC35 e MC35T. O MC35 foi concebido para oferecer as mesmas funcionalidades GSM que o TC35 e para preencher os requisitos da conectividade GPRS. No entanto, MC35 utiliza uma banda base e chipset RF diferente. Alem disto, existem umas pequenas diferenças entre o TC35 e MC35 como:
• Electricas (alimentação)
• Devido à performance do GPRS, existe maior consumo de corrente enquanto decorre a transferencia de dados.

RS-232 (CMOS level) bi-directional bus for commands / data using AT commands. MC35 supports Multiplex mode according to the GSM 07.10 Multiplexer Protocol and enables one physical serial interface to be partitioned into three virtual channels.
