Short biography

I was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in July 1964. I received the Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering degree from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 1988, the Masters degree in Electrical and Computers Engineering from IST, University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1991 and the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, in 1996.

Currently, I am a Full Professor at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the University of Aveiro, and a researcher at the Information Systems and Processing Group of the Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro - IEETA. I am also the current director of IEETA.

My main research activity is in the area of data compression, image compression, data models, Kolmogorov complexity and application of data models to computational biology.
