The main objective of this study was the validation of the assessment tool The Activities and Participation Profile (TAPP), obtaining measures of content validity and concurrent validity. To calculate the content validity a panel of eight experts in the field of aphasia evaluated TAPP items and new materials built to complement the tool (photographic images, visual analogue scale, new component called “reasons”; manual). The experts evaluated these components by answering two questionnaires: a questionnaire related to the items of TAPP, which were classified them according to four criteria, (relevance, ambiguity, simplicity and clarity). A questionnaire with eighteen questions about the evaluation of TAPP in general and about the materials constructed. To estimate concurrent validity an instrument that measures the same basic concept that TAPP, the Frenchay Activities Index (FAI), was used to evalute a sample of seven People with Aphasia (PWA). To statistically analyze the results in terms of content validity the Bland-Altman plot method, the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and the Content Validity Index (CVI), were used. The Spearman coefficient was used to estimate concurrent validity. Results of the analysis of Bland-Altman plots showed that there is agreement among experts, since most points were found to be within the expected limits of agreement. The ICC values revealed good correlation for three criteria, ambiguity simplicity and clarity (ICC=0.421; ICC=0.351; ICC=0.460 respectively) and for the questionnaire 3 (ICC=0.383). For the criteria relevance the ICC value (ICC=0.153) shows little or no correlation. Good CVI values were found for all four criteria (CVI between 1.00 and 0.875), and the total CVI of TAPP was very good (CVI=0.986). However the CVI values of the second questionnaire were less satisfactory (CVI between 0.222 and 0.777). The Spearman coefficient, used to estimate concurrent validity, obtained was low (0.505). The TAPP’s content is valid, as corroborated by the Bland-Altman method, the ICC values and the CVI values. However in concurrent validity was not possible to conclude anything, despite the TAPP and FAI measure the same concept they have different structures and forms of quotation and that originates very different averages and therefore a Spearman coefficient insignificant. It was not possible to conclude anything about it.
